Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa launched the ‘Nekara Sammana Yojana’ on Monday. The Chief Minister announced the yearly monetary assistance plan for handloom weavers in May of this year as a key component of the state’s COVID-19 financial relief package. On an occasion organized by the Handloom and Textiles Department, the CM announced the exchange of cash for weavers’ financial balances. Aside from the annual plan, the state government announced a one-time Rs 2,000 assistance for the beneficiaries.

Karnataka has 54,786 enrolled handloom weavers working with silk, cotton, fleece lingers, and related activities who are eligible for the plan. In the main stage, 19,744 handloom weavers will receive Rs 2,000 per year as a motivating force through DBT. According to current administration estimates, the plan’s annual expenses total Rs 10.96 crore. Until now, 40,634 handloom weavers have enrolled in the plan through the Seva Sindhu entryway, with 37,314 applications reviewed and approved. Cash has been transferred to the ledgers of 8,897 candidates from the state’s assessed 1.25 lakh power loom workers.
